The Damage Control Inventory and Management Stowage System (DCIMSS) reorganizes Shipboard Damage Control Lockers, upgrades the
stowage systems onboard CVN and DDG Class ships to withstand Grade B shock events, kits the damage control equipment, and
inventories and records the equipment in the US Navy database Damage Control Operating Space Items Management System (DC OSIMS).
The completed installation provides quicker access and visibility to equipment in an emergency, ensures that the equipment remains
in place, and allows for faster response time to shipboard emergencies, resulting in increased readiness and safety, reduced manpower
requirements and cost savings/avoidance. The improvements are a result of the lessons learned when the USS Cole was bombed in Yemen with a
loss of 17 lives and millions of dollars in damage to the ship.
