Phoenix Group of Virginia is hiring an experienced Engineering Technician – Electrician to support the Carrier Transition Team (CXT). In this vital role, you will serve as an electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME), partnering directly with Ship’s Force and support organizations during Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) to ensure equipment readiness and fleet modernization.
This is a hands-on, high-impact position where your technical leadership and system expertise will help bridge knowledge gaps and strengthen the operational capabilities of U.S. Navy crews.
Key Responsibilities
Act as a trusted technical advisor to Ship’s Force, offering day-to-day electrical systems guidance.
Proactively support equipment layup, material identification, start-up and test procedures, and troubleshooting efforts during RCOH.
Assist with system walkthroughs and provide hands-on, deckplate-level training to Sailors.
Identify and help resolve technical documentation and equipment issues that could delay readiness.
Collaborate closely with naval maintenance teams to eliminate risks and align shipboard operations with CXT objectives.
Champion an operational mindset and provide mentorship that empowers shipboard personnel.
Qualifications
Minimum of 8 years of experience in CVN (aircraft carrier) maintenance and modernization.
At least 4 years of experience supporting shipyard availability projects (RCOH preferred).
Strong working knowledge of shipboard electrical systems and shipyard equipment.
Familiarity with Navy maintenance programs and key reference materials such as:
Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM)
Navy Standard Item 009-73
Electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on mentoring and technical instruction.
Ability to work independently and as part of an integrated team.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field may be substituted for up to 4 years of experience.
U.S. Citizenship required. Must be eligible for a SECRET security clearance and access to Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS).
